Our Community

Tilopa Kadampa Buddhist Centre was founded in 1996 with the purpose of helping people in Vancouver and British Columbia discover inner peace and happiness through the practice of meditation.

Whether you are attending one of the Centre’s many programs or relaxing here with friends, we offer a friendly and accessible environment for all who wish to learn about the Buddhist way of life.  Situated in the heart of Vancouver, in the Trout Lake Community, the meditation centre is ideally located and accessible from anywhere in the city.

At Tilopa Centre, lay and ordained residents live together as a harmonious community, where residents have an ideal opportunity to put Buddha's teachings into practice in their daily life. Living at Tilopa Centre is the best way to engage in the three wheels of Dharma activities: meditation, study, and Dharma work.  If you are interested in living at, or visiting Tilopa Centre, please contact us.

Tilopa Centre is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition - International Kadampa Buddhist Union, an international association of study and meditation centers that follow the pure tradition of Mahayana Buddhism derived from the Buddhist meditators and scholars Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa and introduced into the West by the Buddhist Teacher Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

There are over 1,000 Kadampa Buddhist centres around the world, with thousands of people now practicing Kadampa Buddhism under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The worldwide Kadampa community is like a global spiritual family because it offers us support and encouragement in our spiritual practice. It is very difficult to make spiritual progress without such help.
